Mimic scores (7'22")
Music at its core is non-verbal communication. The authors conducted an experiment to consider the faces of performing musicians as a symbolic surface (just as for them, notation is a symbolic system). The emotional assimilation of a certain visual series that remained outside the scope of filming was reflected in the movements of the musicians’ facial muscles. The video on a screen divided in two consists of fragments that are set to music according to the principle of dialogism and mirroring of internal processes.
The video was created for Oleg Paiberdin's piece Clarctic for clarinet and resonant piano. The video premiered on March 25, 2012 in the Chamber Hall of the Moscow Philharmonic at the GAM Ensemble concert as part of the Young Russia - Young Europe festival. The GAM Ensemble soloists Edita Phil and Sergei Astashonok took part in the filming.
