Things-in-themselves 1993-94
This series of works synthesizes my first research in the field of form. I am trying to build sculpture as a system, as something whole, complete, so I turn to generalized poetic images that strive for independent content. The idea of an organic connection of everything with everything leads to images of a naturally “developing” organism, an attempt to create a capacious image-symbol that generates numerous associations. Bronze parts of sculptures, polished to a mirror finish
shine, acquire the properties of radiating bodies, dissolve their own volume. Wooden
heavy bases link the “aerodynamic” forms to the ground.
Playing with the habits of standard perception, the combination of the familiar and the distant is the path to a new meaning of sculpture: a hidden sculpture,
a thing in itself that requires a key, a cipher, multiple
access to its codes.
